Little Miss Sunshine

A bittersweet tale about a family finding happinness in what seems to be endless suffering. I really enjoyed the relationship between Paul Dano and Steve Carell, whom portrayed someone I could never see portraying; a not very funny character. He killed did though, and so did Paul Dano, despite having like 2 lines in the entire movie. He is really good at being an angsty teenager.

A note about the grandpa: I was so ready for bodies to have been mixed up at the hospital and for the grandpa to not be dead, but I was pleasantly surprised, this felt so much better. The anticipation came from me feeling like we barely knew the character so it would’ve been a little anticlimactic to kill him off. But this is how life works, you don’t get to decide when you die, and even though he did die, he was still there for the journey.

Speaking of the journey, I liked it way better than the super american ending, that’s where the juice of the movie lies, that’s where the bonds are made, but I must say that the little family dance at the end was pretty cute.

Manic Street Preachers – The Holy Bible

I really like the idea of punk music being protest music but I can’t say I’ve ever been a big fan. It’s always been so raw, and I’ve always associated rawness with emotions, which doesn’t fit the standard “fuck the police” discourse. But this, this might be the best punk album I have listened to. Now why am I only giving it 8 stars then? Well first up, 8 stars is a lot better than the average. Second, given that I don’t usually enjoy punk music very much, I don’t listen to a lot of it. This might be a stretch to the usual listener because there’s also a lot of alternative rock mixed in there but you can’t deny the punk energy this brings. Angsty teenagers hid themselves due to the controversial nature of Violent Femme back in the 80’s, but they sure did not know what was there to come as this is much worse. Richey Edwards was a genius, and the band was never this bold after his disappearance.

Least favourite :

  • The Intense Humming of Evil

Marty Supreme

Soundtrack was pretty damn good and I was captivated through and through. I thought the movie ended abrudtly and was excited for the final tournament, which spoilert alert, never happened. But the more I think about it, the more I like it. I couldn’t help but root for Marty even though he’s the most narcissistic asshole of all time, the movie made you root for him for all the work he’s put to get there. I loved that the has-been actress was played by a has-been actress, even though I should really despise Gwyneth Paltrow for her Goop nonsense.

The movie was filled with non-actor cameos but they honestly did a pretty good job so I’m not too mad about that. Kevin O’Leary pretty much just played himself, this movie was pretty ironic overall.

Just a good watch.

Zootopia 2

List of things that annoyed me during the movie include :

  • “The first fox and bunny police duo in all history of Zootopia”
Okay but it could’ve been literally any other animal duo and there’s a very good chance it would’ve been the first as well, this is localized in a single city and there are like 5 animals in the entire police force. That doesn’t really sound like an achievement.
  • Shakira’s terrible song which just sounds like a knock-off version of Waka Waka but so does all of her other songs so I didn’t expect much
  • That “let’s expose our feelings scene” which was pretty cringe
  • That horse mayor suddenly fighting off the villains like they’re nothing but they’ve been scared of them the entire movie
  • The ending resolved way too easily and there was basically no suspense or thrill

List of things I liked :

  • Patrick Waburton
  • Ke huy Quan

For no other reason than I just like them.

Overall still pretty solid, Pixar does know how to animate and I had a good time laughing at all the silly jokes. Bunch of references crammed in there as well.

Mina the Hollower

I was kind of scared of this release. I played the demo last year and was left pretty disappointed. Especially directly after playing the excellent Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo.

I’m glad I still gave it a chance because this game was great. Very gloomy in it’s presentation, great story, very fun to explore and very fun to hunt secrets. Took me just over 20 hours to beat and I was not tired of it, which is something because I tend to get bored of games that are too long. 10-12 hours usually seems like the sweet spot for me.

007 First Light

Never was interested in the stealth genre but I bought this anyways because it’s James Bond and I wanted to see the cameos, instead I got served with jacksepticeye and shroud.

Aside from that, it was still pretty good and I would lie if I said it didn’t feel like a James Bond movie because it definitely did.
