28 Days Later

First up I just want to point out that I rented this movie on Amazon Prime for $5 and it said “HD” yet I still couldn’t see or hear shit and I feel scammed. I get that this movie is from 2002 but that isn’t even that old, I’ve seen much older movies with much clearer visuals and sound, maybe it’s the British accent ? Oh well, great movie. The plot is pretty standard for this type of movie, it doesn’t really reinvent the wheel. It’s a zombie movie, but it shines in other ways. I love the attention to detail, I love how zombies are actually threatening in this, they run. This is prior to World War Z, this wasn’t a thing back in 2002. I love how Brendan Gleeson (or whatever his character’s name was) has the dumbest death of all time, and that when Jim goes back to the roadblock later in the movie, the zombie’s corpse still shows up in the background. The romance is extremely surface level but it makes a lot of sense in a setting this gloom, they just try to find joy where it’s available (and I suppose the soldiers also get that part…). Solid. Also yes, I’m planning to watch the other movies.

Project Hail Mary

If technology and money isn’t an issue then why won’t they make a tank that can store more astrophage…
I would’ve hated this movie if it was not for Rocky, I liked it quite a bit but the claustrophobic space setting is not really for me, and I guess that’s what’s preventing me for giving me 10 stars like everryone else. Still a fun watch and I really liked the cheesy ending.

Stardust

Disclaimer : this is the point of view of a guy who did not read the book.

It kind of overstayed it’s welcome for me, some scenes felt unnecessary, like why would Tristan ever leave Yvaine without a warning for Victoria if he found out he doesn’t love Victoria? That can definitely wait.

I also find the ending bittersweet, Victoria hadn’t done anything wrong, she seemed like a sweet lady and was introduced to us as “the love of my life” according to Tristan, and I was definitely rooting for Tristan to come back home, kick Henry Cavill’s ass and get back with her, but they decided to turn Victoria into a villain right before the end for no apparent reason.

Overall it was still a cute story, a lot of good moments, I was expecting a lot funnier but what it didn’t provide in funny haha’s, it provided in heartfelt moments (and Robert De Niro was awesome).

Wolf Alice – Blue Weekend

Album starts strong, with 4 killer tracks although I must say, I expected something else from the second track as The Beach is just a giant build up and Delicious Thing is such a low-key track, they’re both excellent though. This album does not really have any skip, there are definitely weaker songs like Safe From Heartbreak but they’re not offensive, they just don’t stand out as the rest of the track listing. Love the shoegaze aesthetic they were going for with this one, and I can’t not mention The Last Man On Earth which is one of the best tracks of this entire decade, period.
